UMW Women's Basketball Tops Salisbury, 55-49

Junior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored 18 points and classmate Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) added 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 55-49 win over Salisbury University on Saturday in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles, winners of 10 straight, improve to 16-5 overall and 11-1 in CAC play.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, running the margin to 16 at 22-6 on a three pointer by Sarah Jones with 11:59 to play in the first half. The Sea Gulls cut the deficit to 10 before UMW upped the lead to 13 at 30-17 at halftime.

The second half was a back and forth affair, as UMW led by as many as 13, while the Gulls were able to cut the deficit to as few as six for the final score. McRae went 8-13 from the floor, including 2-4 three pointers. Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) had eight rebounds and Sam Partonen (Burke, Va., Robinson) seven assists for UMW. Salisbury was led by Glen Charlton's 14 points.

The Eagles shot 38% from the floor, while the Sea Gulls shot 29%. UMW will host Hood College on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in another CAC contest.
