McRae's 21 Leads UMW Past Ferrum, 65-60

Junior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds and four assists to pace the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 65-60 win over Ferrum College on Wenesday night at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 15-5 in running their win streak to nine straight, while the Panthers fall to 13-6.

The first half saw a very evenly matched contest, as neither team led by more than four points, with the Eagles holding a 29-26 advantage at intermission. The Eagles shot 48% from the floor in the opening half, but the Panthers stayed close.

After the Panthers cut the deficit to one point, the Eagles used a 9-0 run, including seven points from McRae, to take a 40-30 advantage with 13:59 left. From that point, UMW kept the lead to at least four points, holding on for a five-point victory.

In addition to McRae's quality play, junior guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 10 points and added six assists and five rebounds. Junior Claire Brooks (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ferrum was led by Tesla Akers' 15 points.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Salisbury University at 2:00 p.m.
