UMW Women's Basketball Tops York, 54-45, to Move to 4-1 in CAC Play

Junior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored a team-high 13 points, and classmate Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) added 10 points in leading the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 54-45 win at York College on Saturday afternoon in York. The Eagles move to 8-5 overall, and 4-1 in CAC play.

The Eagles led throughout, leading by as many as 40-16 with 12 minutes remaining. York closed the final gap to nine, 54-45, at the final horn. The Eagles shot 37% from the floor, while limiting York to 24%. The Spartans made 13 field goals in the game.

The Eagles won the battle of the boards, 46-33, and made 15-17 free throws in the contest.


In addition to her 13 points, McRae added six rebounds and two steals, while Wimmer had five rebounds and three steals in addition to her 10 scores. Rachel Martin (Annandale, Va., Bishop Ireton) and Sam Partonen (Burke, Va., Robinson) each had eight points and Claire Brooks (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) added seven for UMW. York was led by Brittany Hicks and Jaimie Sapp, who each scored 12 points.

Mary Washington will host St. Mary's College on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with first place in the Capital Athletic Conference standings on the line.
