UMW Women's Basketball Tops Hood, 67-30


FREDERICK, MD - The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team received 12 points from sophomores Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) and Rachel Martin (Annandale, Va., Bishop Ireton) in a 67-30 Capital Athletic Conference victory at Hood College at fort Detrick on Friday night. The Eagles improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Eagles led from the start, jumping out to a 19-4 lead midway through the first half. UMW upped the lead to 21 by halftime, 38-17, on a late field goal from freshman Erin O'Neill (Monroe, N.Y., Washingtonville), who registered a career-high four blocked shots in 15 minutes.

UMW limited Hood to three field goals in the second half, and 14% shooting (7-50) for the game. UMW also forced 27 Hood turnovers. The Eagles shot 42% from the floor for the game.

Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) added nine points for UMW, while freshman Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) led with eight rebounds. The Eagles outrebounded Hood, 46-36.

The Eagles will next play on December 17 at Kean University at 6:30 p.m.
