BALTIMORE, MD - University of Mary Washington sophomore guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Eagle women's basketball team to a 59-44 victory over Richard Stockton College on Saturday in Baltimore at the Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament at Johns Hopkins. The Eagles improve to 2-0 overall, while the Ospreys fall to 1-1.

The Eagles' strong defensive effort included limiting Stockton to 25.9% shooting from the floor, including an 0-18 from three-point range. UMW jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, thanks in part to two three pointers from senior guard Ashley Reed (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson). A pair of Kate Carlezon (Scituate, Mass., Scituate) jumpers upped the lead to 15-4, and five straight points from sophomore Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) upped the advantage to 26-11 with 6:37 to play in the half. A layup by McRae with 1:13 pushed the lead to 36-20 at intermission.

The Eagles led by as many as 21 in the second half at 43-22 on a McRae jumper. The Ospreys cut the deficit to 52-41 with 4:35 to play, but UMW held on for the 15-point win.

McRae led the Eagles with 20 points on 7-14 shooting from the floor and 5-5 from the free throw line. Wimmer also reached double figures with 12 points. Reed added nine. Freshman Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) led UMW with six rebounds, while five different players added five boards. UMW outrebounded Richard Stockton, 39-36.

The Eagles will face Johns Hopkins on Sunday in the tournament championship at 3:00 p.m.
