McRae's 17 Leads #24 UMW Women's Basketball Past York, 63-51
YORK, PA - Sophomore guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored a team-high 17 points to lead the 24th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 63-51 victory at York College on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles, winners of 12 straight, improve to 18-3 overall and 13-0 in CAC play.

After falling behind early, the Eagles steadily raised the lead to 10 points late in the first half before leading, 28-19, at halftime. In the second half, York trimmed the deficit to five before UMW upped the lead to 15 at 51-36 with 7:30 to play on a McRae jumper. UMW upped the lead to as many as 19 before posting a final 12-point win.

McRae shot 4-10 from the field and went 9-10 from the line as the only Eagle in double figures. Senior forward Kate Carlezon (Scituate, Mass., Scituate) made 3-4 field goals and all three free throw attempts to score nine points, and Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) and Lauren Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) each scored seven points for the Eagles. York was led by April Sparkman's 18 points.

The Eagles shot 34% from the field (22-65), while York shot 31% (16-51). UMW made 2-9 three pointers and made 17-23 free throws. York made 5-15 three point attempts and went 14-22 free throws. The Eagles held a 44-43 edge in rebounding, including 18 offensive boards. UMW forced 22 York turnovers.

Mary Washington will visit fifth-ranked Marymount University on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in another CAC game.
