UMW Women's Basketball Tops Stevenson, 81-30, in CAC Action

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Sophomore guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 19 points in 21 minutes to pace the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to an 81-30 win over Stevenson University on Wednesday night at Goolrick Gymnasium. Sophomore Lauren Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) added 13 points and Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) 11 for the Eagles, who remain unbeaten in CAC play at 11-0 and improve to 16-3 overall.

The Eagles built a strong lead in the first half, leading 39-12 at halftime after limiting the Mustangs to three field goals in the opening stanza. UMW shot 12-29 (41.4%) in each half, and outscored Stevenson 42-18 in the second half.

Wimmer made 5-8 field goals and all seven of her free throw attempts. Kornacki was 4-6 from the floor and 5-5 from the line, and Mcrae made three field goals, including two three pointers, and three of four foul shots. UMW went 27-32 from the line for the game.

Furthering the Eagles' cause was 27 Mustang turnovers and nine blocks, led by Carol Dye's three. UMW won the rebounding battle, 44-25.

Stevenson was led by Sam Murray's 10 points.

The Eagles will host St. Mary's College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in another Capital Athletic Conference game.
