The University of Mary Washington outdoor track & fied teams opened the 2023 season this weekend at the Washington and Lee University Winter Carnival in Lexington, Va.

On Friday, the Eagles women were highlighted by a first place finish from senior Haileigh Byrd in the long jump at 5.04 meters. The Eagle men saw senior Rajai Walton finish second in the long jump, with a leap of 6.84 meters, while Samuel Gowe finished seventh at 6.42 meters.  

On Saturday, the men saw Ethan Young finish sixth in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.82, and Reese Creadon finished eighth in the 100 meters, at 11.40, while Ian Chapan took 10th at 11.44. Jacinto Jones II was second in the 200 meters, at 21.99, while Chapman took 10th at 22.80. 

The women saw Byrd finish third in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.35, while Sophia Redmond took second in the 100 meters at 12.49 and third in the 200 meters at 25.77.
