UMW Indoor Track & Field Competes at Richard Drake Invte

The University of Mary Washington indoor track & field teams took on many teams at the Richard Drake Invitational in Virginia Beach, VA. There are some outstanding results from today. 

On the track, the men's team cheered for Darius Reed as he sprinted 7.20 in the 60m dash preliminaries, moving him forward to the semifinals. There, Reed placed fourth with a time of 7.00. This race result brought him to the finals, where he placed fourth with a time of 7.07. Reed also ran the 200m dash, resulting in a 23.29 finish. In the 300m run, Patrick Brown and Justin Libman both finished in a time of 8:58, placing third and fourth. The team also saw Nick Onorato finish the 1-mile race with a time of 4:34, ending up in 10th place. Chester Pruitt and Onorato both ran the 800m run in 2:06, placing fourteenth and sixteenth. 

For the Women's team, there were several great performances. Kelly Young and Grace Pippin both ran a time of 5:35 in the 1 mile, landing Young eighth place and Pippin tenth place. Pippin also achieved a finish of 11:08 in the 3000m run. In the 800m run, Amanda Heckman placed sixth with 2:33, Valentina Leon-Ledezma dashed to a finish of 28.05 in the 200m, and Desmone Logan raced the 600m hurdles in 10.59. 

Both teams had a great showing at the Richard Drake Invitational. Their next competition is at the Roanoke Challenge Invitational on February 12, 2022.
