Laurence Sneed Named CAC Track Athlete of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the indoor track and field season. Mary Washington junior Laurence Sneed claimed CAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Salisbury sophomore Zachary Stump captured CAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the second straight week.


TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Laurence Sneed - Mary Washington

Mary Washington junior Laurence Sneed posted the top finish for the Eagles at the Roanoke College Bast Cregger Invitational on Saturday. The junior finished first in the 400 meters, at 50.69, to help UMW to a fifth place finish as a team on the day. His mark ranks second in the conference and 46th nationally.


FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Zachary Stump - Salisbury

Salisbury sophomore Zachary Stump continued his trend of setting a new school record in the pole vault on Saturday at the Eastern Shore Combine and Multis Invitational. Stump's mark of 4.61 meters (15-1.5) broke his previous record set last week of 4.56 meters (14-11.5). His mark ranks first in the conference and 16th nationally.

LEAGUE NOTES

York freshman Isaac Valderrabano notched a pair of top four finishes at the Little Dip Invitational on Friday in Lancaster. Valderrabano recorded a second place finish in the one mile run, crossing the finish line in a time of 4:27.89. He followed that with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter dash, posting a time of 2:05.37. Valderrabano, the CAC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year, owns the best one mile time of the year in the CAC to this point with his time on Friday night...York senior Nick Lindley earned a pair of fourth place finishes at the Little Dip Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday night in Lancaster. Lindley finished fourth in the shot put with a best heave of 11.27 meters. He followed that with a fourth place finish in the weight throw, recording a top throw of 11.91 meters....Salisbury senior Mickey Van Gieson had another solid outing on Saturday at the Eastern Shore Combine and Multis Invitational, setting a new school record while finishing first overall in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.10. The senior was also the anchor for both of the men's 4x200 and 4x400-meter relay teams that finished second overall on the day.
