Aman Casey Named CAC Track Athlete of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its second weekly awards of the indoor track and field season. Mary Washington freshman Aman Casey claimed CAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Christopher Newport freshman CJ Reeders captured CAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades.


TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Aman Casey - Mary Washington

Mary Washington freshman Aman Casey turned in a memorable performance in his first collegiate meet at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Saturday, as he finished first in the 200 meters at 22.78 as well as third in the 300 meters at 37.00.


FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: CJ Reeders - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport freshman CJ Reeders equaled his PR in the triple jump while matching the seventh-longest distance in the nation this year during the Keydet Invitational on Friday. During the competition, he registered a 14.36-meter effort, which stands as the top mark in the CAC this year by over six inches. It also places him second in the South / Southeast Region and ranks eighth on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list.

LEAGUE NOTES

York freshman Elder Lopez had a strong showing at the Moravian Indoor Meet this weekend in Bethlehem, Pa. Lopez finished tied for second in the high jump at the event with a best height of 6' (1.83 meters). He finished tied with junior Phillip Dwyer from St. Joesph's. They were four inches behind senior Darnell Randall from East Stroudsburg. Lopez owns the third-best height in the CAC in the high jump this year..Justin Smyth had a strong showing at the Moravian Indoor Meet on Saturday in Bethlehem. Smyth finished second in the 5000 meter run as he crossed the finish line in a time of 16:11.85. He was the top Division III finisher in the event as the winner of the 5K was Brian LaFleche from Division I Colgate. Smyth's time in the 5K is the top in the CAC so far this season....Mary Washington senior Tristan Johnson claimed two scoring performances for the Eagles on Saturday at the University of Maryland, as he took fourth in the shot put at 13.70 meters and sixth in the weight throw at 14.36 meters...Southern Virginia freshman Murray Bingham helped set a new program record in the 4x800 in a time of 8:12.41 and a third-place finish at the VMI Keydet Invitational. The new record breaks the previous record by 47 seconds. The freshman followed up his strong performance the next day in the mile placing ninth overall with a time of 4:28.85 against primarily Division I and II programs. His time of 4:28.85 is the second fastest in program history and currently positions him first in the CAC in the event.
