Senior cross country and track and field standout Jillian Weisbeck has been named as the 2018-19 University of Mary Washington Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced on Friday.

Weisbeck, a nursing major who graduated in May with a 3.91 grade-point average, won the 2018 CAC Cross Country Runner of the Year award in the fall, and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship. She gained first team all-region honors in track and field in the spring, helping the UMW women's track and field team to the Capital Athletic Conference Championship for the first time since 2009.

Weisbeck worked full-time as a nurse this entire academic year while completing her courses toward graduation and competing on the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Director Association's All-State Academic Team, and gained academic all-region accolades this year as well. She is a member of the UMW Student-Athlete Academic Honor Society.

UMW Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach Kunle Lawson, on Weisbeck: "Jillian has been the backbone of our women's distance program for the last three years. In addition to her importance to us, she has been managing her school and practice load while maintaining full-time employment as a nurse with Mary Washington Health Care. Her success is a testament to her hard work and dedication to being the best she can be."
