UMW Men's Track & Field in First After Day One at CAC Championships; Women in Second

The University of Mary Washington men's outdoor track and field team stands in first place after day one action at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Christopher Newport University, while the women stand in second place, just two points out of first.

For the men, senior Ripken Smith took third in the shot put at 44 feet, 10.75 inches. In the triple jump, sophomore Rajai Walton finished first at 47 feet, 11.75 inches, sophomore Ben Onguene took third, and junior David Danek finished fourth. The Eagles took fourth, fifth, and sixth in the hammer throw, with Robert Robertson finishing fourth. Jeff Gibson finished second in the 10K at 33:37.

The women saw Jean Woodrum finish fourth in the hammer throw, Yamina James take second in the pole vault at 10 feet, 8.75 inches, and Haileigh Byrd take third (35 feet, 0.5 inches) and Desmone Logan take fourth (34 feet, 7.5 inches) in the triple jump.

Senior Jillian Weisbeck finished second in the 10K at 40:08. 

The Eagles saw Erin Andrewlevich take the top prelim time in both the 100 and 200 yard dash, breaking the CAC record in the latter. Those finals will be run on Saturday, as the meet continues.
