UMW Women Take 3rd, Men 4th at CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

The University of Mary Washington women's indoor track and field team finished in third place, while the men finished in the middle of a tight pack in fourth at the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference championships on Saturday in Newport News, Va.

The women finished with 117 points, behind Salisbury's 154 and CNU's 135, and ahead of York (85), Penn State Harrisburg (82), Southern Virginia (32), and Frostburg (12). The men finished with 93 points, with CNU taking first with 129 points, Salisbury second with 124, and Harrisburg taking third with 94. Frostburg scored 92, York 63, and Southern Va. 23.

The women saw Angie Cherikos take second in the 60 meters at 8.21, while Erin Andrewlevich finished fifth at 8.49. Andrewlevich finished second in the 200 meters at 26.23, and also took second in the 400 meters at 59.97. Senior Emily Knerr finished third in the mile at 5:24.35, and then won the 3000 meters at 10:35.11, with Jillian Weisbeck taking third. Victoria Chantyasak-White finished second in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.62, and the 4x400 meter relay took fourth at 4:19.67.

Chanthyasak-White took second in the high jump at five feet, 0.25 inches, and Yamina James finished second in the pole vault at 10 feet, four inches. Desmone Logan was third in the triple jump at 34 feet, five inches.

The men saw Laurence Sneed take third in the 800 meters at 1:58.11, and Jeff Gibson take fourth in the 3000 meters at 8:49.62. The 4x400 meter relay took second at 3:27.85, and Rajai Walton won the triple jump at 46 feet, two inches. Ripken Smith was second in the shot put at 44 feet, 8.25 inches.
