David Danek Named CAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington's David Danek & Christopher Newport's Clark Edwards were selected as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 29, 2019.

Mary Washington junior David Danek finished in first place in the high jump at the George Mason Invitational, with a leap of 2.09 meters (six feet, 10.25 inches). His winning leap is the second highest in Division III this winter, all but assuring him of a top-20 height to advance to the NCAA Championships.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Chris Leby turned in a solid performance at the George Mason University Open on Saturday afternoon. Leby earn two top-five finished in including a first-place finish in the triple jump. Leby recorded a jump of 42' 2" to earn the victory. He would go on to place fifth in the long jump recording a jump of 20' 8" to earn the finish...Salisbury's Conner Masteran broke his second record of the indoor season breaking the school record in the 3,000-meter run. Masteran earned a third-place finish posting a mark of 8:36.75 breaking George Martinez's previous record of 8:39.18 set back in 2014. He finished just three seconds behind a runner from Division I University of Richmond while edging out another runner from Richmond by 15 hundredths of a second to earn the top-3 finish...After placing second last weekend at the Collegeville Classic, Southern Virginia's Derek Blasko won the shot put at the Finn Pincus Invitational this week at Salem, Virginia with a toss of 14.87m on his first attempt of the day. The victory came in a field of nearly 70 athletes...Frostburg State's Shamar Nelson won the long jump for the third time in three meets this season with a victory at a season-best 6.98 meters (22ft. 11in.) at the Bison Open & Multi at Bucknell ... The distance currently ranks him fourth in the NCAA Mideast Region...In his first action of the indoor season, Frostburg State's Robert Romano ran his way to victory in the one-mile run in 4:19.56, besting several NCAA Division I and II competitors at the Bison Open & Multi at Bucknell ... It's the NCAA Mideast Region's third fastest time this winter...Penn State Harrisburg's Cameron Yon turned in his best all-around effort of the season at Bucknell's Bison Open and Multi over the weekend. The senior posted his top marks of the season in both the shot put and weight throw, with his shot effort of 14.32 meters earning him the top finish of any Division III competitor in the event and eighth overall, while his top weight toss of 16.88 meters was the second-best among Division III throwers and sixth-best overall. Both marks currently rank second among CAC athletes in their respective events...Penn State Harrisburg's Jalil Clayton continued his stellar season at Bucknell's Bison Open and Multi over the weekend. The senior won the 60m hurdle with a mark of 8.18 seconds before impressing in the 200m dash, finishing seventh in a field of 54 competitors after crossing the line in 22.86 seconds; a mark good enough to rank second among CAC runners. He was also the highest-finishing Division III competitor in the 400m dash the next day, with his time of 51.27 currently ranking fourth among conference athletes...York's Ben Linne had a great weekend at the Bucknell Bison Open for the Spartans. Linne finished third in the 5000 meter run, posting a time of 15:29.85. He followed that with a fourth place finish at the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:46.56.
