Davon Guerrier Named CAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week

FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington freshman Davon Guerrier and Salisbury senior Duncan Ferrin secured the CAC Men's Track & Field weekly awards for March 20, 2018.

Mary Washington freshman Davon Guerrier was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning a pair of hurdle events at the UMW Opener, including the third-fastest 110-meter hurdle time in the nation. Guerrier won the 110 hurdles in 14.8 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 56.85, which ranks 22nd in Division III. Both times are tops in the CAC in the outdoor season.

Salisbury senior Duncan Ferrin earned CAC Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year after posting the fourth-best mark nationally in the hammer throw with a mark of 180'-5.5" at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. Ferrin set a new personal record and placed third in the event. He also registered the 17th-best discus mark in the Division III this season at 134'.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport competed at the Tribe Invitational last weekend. Joseph Lightbody moved to ninth in program history in the 5,000 after registering a time of 15:10.67. That clocking not only led all Division III competitors at the meet, but it also ranks 16th in the NCAA so far this year ... Mary Washington senior Daniel Forjan got off to a strong start in outdoor season as he finished first in the shot put at 48 feet, as well as first in the discus at 135 feet, four inches at the UMW Opener on Saturday. He also took second in the hammer as the top collegiate thrower ... Salisbury's Michael Weber set a new school record in the 3,000 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational with a time of 8:52.46, which broke the previous mark of 8:58.86 set by Kyle Tockman back in 2013 ...Southern Virginia junior M.J. Nelson placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45, in a field of 45 runners, while junior Derek Blasko threw a program-best javelin of 51.20 meters for a second-place finish and also placed in the top five in shot put with a throw of 13.07 meters.
