UMW Outdoor Track & Field Hosts Day One of Battleground Relays on Friday

The University of Mary Washington outdoor track and field teams hosted day one of the 2017 Battleground Relays on Friday in rainy Fredericksburg.

In the men's 3000 steeplechase, senior Chris Markham finished second at 9:53.89, and sophomore Calhoun Strirling finished third at 9:56.50. Daniel Forjan finished second in the hammer throw at 127 feet, 4.25 inches, while Daniel Robertson took third at 122 feet, 5.25 inches. Jose Mundo was third in the triple jump at 42 feet, 4.75 inches.

The women saw the 1600 sprint medley relay take first at 4:16.65. That relay consisted of Lauren Esprit, Janel Moore, Erin Andrewlevich, and Kristy White. Senior Sheree Turner took second in the hammer throw at 145 feet, eight inches.

The Relays will continue with a full day of events on Saturday.
