UMW Men Finish Fourth, Women Fifth at CAC Indoor Track Championships

The University of Mary Washington's track and field teams competed in the CAC indoor track championships on Saturday, with the men's team drastically improving on their finish in 2016 and both squads seeing All-Conference performances.

The men, who finished in seventh place at the 2016 championships with nine points, finished fourth on Saturday with 59 points. The Eagles were led by junior thrower Daniel Forjan, who won the shot put with a throw of 15.5 meters and set a school record, earning first team All-Conference honors. Two freshmen, David Danek and Kendall Moses, earned second team All-Conference honors with second place finishes and personal records in high jump and long jump, respectively.

Also contributing for the men were freshmen Camron Rauch and Scott Black, with fifth-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively. Freshman Jeff Gibson scored seven points between a seventh place finish in the 3,000-meter run and a fourth place finish in the 5,000-meter run.

The women, who were led by junior Janel Moore's three second team All-Conference finishes, scored 62 points on their way to a fifth place finish on Saturday. Moore broke her own school record in the 60-meter dash prelims at 7.93 seconds and finished in second with a time of 8.00 seconds in the finals. She was joined in the top eight by freshman Erin Andrewlevich, who finished sixth in the 60-meter dash finals just five minutes after finishing third in the 400-meter dash at 59.84 seconds.

Moore and Andrewlevich also led the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay to a second place finish, along with freshmen Kristy White and Lauren Esprit, who also finished sixth in long jump. Moore's third second-place finish of the day was in the 200-meter dash, where she finished in 26.28.

In the distance events, White finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:27.96 and sophomore Jillian Weisbeck was fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 19:13. Junior Bethany Wilson also finished sixth in the weight throw with a throw of 11.72 meters.

Both teams will begin their outdoor seasons on March 18 at the Mary Washington Invitational, UMW's first meet on the new track at the Battleground.
