UMW Men's and Women's Track and Field Competes at New Captains' Classic on Friday and Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's track and field teams competed at the New Captains' Classic at Christopher Newport University on Friday night and Saturday in Newport News.

For the women, senior Taylor Cockerille finished fifth in the shot put at 40 feet, seven inches. Junior Sheree Turner was fifth in the discus at 126 feet, eight inches, with Cockerille finishing seventh at 122 feet, seven inches.

Turner was third in the hammer throw at 144 feet, nine inches, for the top finish of the meet.

Daniel Forjan represented the men with a sixth place finish in the shot put at 45 feet, 8.5 inches, with Daniel Usher taking ninth. Forjan was eighth in the discus at 133 feet, 11 inches, with Usher taking 12th, while Matt Parker was fifth in the javelin at 143 feet, 10 inches.

The Eagles will compete in the CAC Championships next weekend in Frostburg, Md., with events starting on Friday afternoon.
