UMW Track and Field Competes at Home at Battleground Relays

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's track and field teams competed at its home meet, the Battleground Relays, on Friday and Saturday, with many quality results.

For the men, sophomore Glenn Taylor won the 100 meters at 10.82. James King won the 3000 meter steeplechase at 10:44.10; the 4x800 relay of Jamie Van Emmerik, Julian Menk, Kevin McCarthy, and Tate Houff took first at 8:29.43; and the distance medley relay of Van Emmerik, Menk, McCarthy, and Ben Sorensen took first at 10:54.04.

Daniel Forjan won the hammer throw with a toss of 125 feet, five inches, and Frank Corona won the javelin at 171 feet, three inches.

For the women, Janel Moore won the 100 meters at 12.84; Lauren Braney won the 5K at 19:42.45; Tara Landy won the 10K at 41:57; Samantha Park won the 3000 steeplechase at 12:43. The 4x200 relay of Emily Derse, Bailey Ratliff, Rachel lewis, and Moore won at 1:53.41, and the 4x400 relay of Derse, Lewis, Claire Harrington, and Moore won at 4:14.95.

The 4x800 relay of Marin Bader, Lewis, Victoria Parent, and Park took first at 10:22.70. The distance medley relay of Lewis, Ratliff, Bader, and Braney won at 13:10.73. Harrington won the pole vault at 10 feet, six inches; Jordan Watkins won the triple jump at 32 feet, 11.75 inches; and Taylor Cockerille won the shot put at 38 feet, 11 inches as well as the discus at 132 feet, five inches. Sheree Turner won the hammer throw at 132 feet, 10 inches. 

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at the UMBC Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
