UMW Track and Field Competes at George Mason; Turner Sets School Mark in Hammer Throw

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's track and field teams sent participants to the George Mason University Spring Invitational on Saturday, with several quality results. Sheree Turner captured the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 145 feet, two inches.

In other action, Janel Moore ran the 200 meters at 26.55, while Taylor Cockerille threw the shot put 41 feet, 10 inches.

The men saw Nick Smith finish fourth in the long jump at 22 feet, 10 inches, just an inch off the school record. He always finaled in the triple jump, at 44 feet, six inches. Glenn Taylor ran the 200 meters at 22.2.

In the evening distance races, Rachel Lewis ran the 1500 meters at 4:44.98. Lauren Braney ran the 5000 meters at 17:57.9, a new personal best. Ben Sorenson ran the 5K in 14:53.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday at the Mason Dixon Meet in Gettysburg, Pa.
