UMW Track and Field Completes Day One at CAC Championships

The University of Mary Washington track and field teams opened competition at the Capital Athletic Conference championships on Saturday in Newport News, Va., with four first place finishes.

Junior Claire Harrington took first place in the pole vault, with a new school record jump of 11 feet, 1.75 inches. Elysa Baker finished first in the hammer throw with a toss of 136 feet, four inches. Freshman Natalie Young took first in the 10K with a time of 39:19.68.

For the men, Nick Judy placed first in the pole vault with a leap of 15 feet, 3.5 seconds. In the prelims for the 100 meter dash, Glenn Taylor is seeded second after running to a 10.82 in the prelims. Taylor is tied for first after prelims in the 200 meters after posting a 21.97.

After five events scored, the men stand in fourth place with 24 points, five behind York for third place. The women are currently in third place after five scored events, with 36 points, six behind second place CNU.

The Championships will continue on Sunday.
