Taylor's School Record in 100 Meters Leads Strong UMW Showing at Swarthmore

University of Mary Washington freshman Glenn Taylor strengthened his case for an invitation to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with a first place finish and school record in the 100 meters at Swarthmore College on Monday night, leading a group of strong finishes for the Eagles.

Taylor took medalist honors in the 100 with a time of 10.66, bettering his own school record time. He also finished third in the 200 meters at 21.68 seconds. Senior Matt Shaughnessy set a personal best in the 800 meters at 1:32.68, and the women saw several PRs as well.

Both Natalie Young and Liz Green set personal bests in the 5000 meters, as Young finished at 17:32 and Green finished at 18:05. Sheree Turner finished second in the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 3.25 inches and classmate Taylor Cockerille placed third at 128 feet, 7.5 inches. Claire Harrington leapt 10 feet, six inches in the pole vault.
