UMW Women's Track & Field Places Second at CAC Championships; Men Place Third

The University of Mary Washington women's outdoor track and field team finished in second place at the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday, while the men placed third.

On Sunday, the women saw the team dominate the 5000 meters, with Natalie Young taking first with a conference championship meet record time of 8:15.25. Liz Green was second at 18:33, and Claudia Autore third at 19:15.38.

Cheyenne Falls finished first in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 2.25 inches, while Sheree Turner finished third at 41 feet, eight inches, and Taylor Cockerille was fourth at 39 feet, one inch,

The Eagles finished 1-2-3-5 in the discus, as Turner finished first at 134 feet, four inches, followed by Cockerille in second at 126 feet, three inches, Baker in third at 125 feet, 10 inches, and Falls fifth at 109 feet, five inches.

For the men, Glenn Taylor took second in the 100 meters at 10.77, and finished first in the 200 meters at 21.88. Zach Kerns was second in the 400 meters at 49.60, Sean Healy was second in the 5000 meters at 15:40.21 and Ian Granger was third at 15:49.

The women placed second behind champion CNU (198 points) with 128, just two points ahead of third place Salisbury (126). Wesley followed with 92 points, followed by York with 43 points and Frostburg 33.

The men finished with 74 points, behind Salisbury 198) and Christopher Newport (172), and ahead of York (70), Wesley (65), and FSU (41).
