UMW Dominates Field at Battleground Relays

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season this weekend by hosting the Battleground Relays, with much success.

The men saw first place finishes from Julian Menk in the 3000 meters (9:09.68), the 4x200 meter relay team of Ben Tuxbury, Glenn Taylor, Allan Meyer, and Zach Kerns at 1:31.20; Sean Healy in the 10K at 33:09; the 4x800 meter relay of Jamie van Emmerik, Nate Dawes, Kevin McCarthy, and Chris Anderson at 8:51.20; the 4x100 meter relay of Elias Ingea, Glenn Taylor, Allan Meyer, and Zach Kerns at 42.84; Matt Shaughnessy in the 1500 meters at 4:12.40; Chris Markham in the 3000 steeplechase at 10:28.10.

The men's distance medley relay of Nate Dawes, Tuxbury, McCarthy, and van Emmerik won at 10:58.20. The sprint medley relay also placed first at 3:46.98. Alex Shivnen won the hammer throw at 104 feet, 10 inches; Frank Corona won the javelin at 166 feet, six inches; Nick Judy won the pole vault at 14 feet; and Matt Parker won the long jump at 20 feet, one half inch.

The women saw wins from Natalie Young in the 3000 meters at 10:28.89; the 4x200 relay of Claire Harrington, Corinne Zinser, Danielle Holzhauser, and Emily Derse at 1:52.31; Lauren Braney in the 1500 meters at 4:59.84; the distance medley relay of Liz Green, Emily Derse, Victoria Parent, and Natalie Young at 13:09.98; and Claudia Autore in the 5000 meters at 20:18.43.

The 4x400 meter relay was also victorious at 4:15.00; Jordan Watkins won the triple jump at 33 feet, 7.25 inches; Cheyenne Falls won the javelin at 99 feet, 11 inches and the shot put at 40 feet, 3.25 inches; Taylor Cockerille won the discus at 113 feet, four inches; and Claire Harrington won the pole vault at 10 feet, six inches.
