UMW Women Take Second at CAC Indoor Championships; Men Claim Fifth

The University of Mary Washington women's indoor track and field team finished in second place at the 2014 CAC Indoor Championships on Saturday in Newport News, Va., while the men took fifth place.

For the women, the throwers carried the day, as Cheyenne Falls finished first in the shot put with a school record throw of 40 feet, 10.5 inches. The Eagles finished 2-3-4-5 in the weight throw, with Elysa Baker finishing second at 43 feet, 4.25 inches; Sheree Turner taking third at 40 feet, 2.25 inches; Taylor Cockerille placing fourth at 39 feet, 11.25 inches, and Falls taking fifth at 37 feet, 9.25 inches.

In the shot put, in addition to Falls' winning throw, Turner finished third at 37 feet, six inches, and Cockerille was fourth at 37 feet, 4.5 inches. Claire Harrington finished second in the pole vault at 10 feet, four inches.

Natalie Young took first in the 5000 meters at 18:05.50 and second in the 3000 meters at 10:49.70. Lauren Braney was third in the mile at 5:29.74.

On the men's side, junior Nick Judy finished first with a school record and CAC indoor record leap of 14 feet, 6.25 inches. Sean Healy was third in the 5000 meters at 15:51.63, and Matt Shaughnessy was second in the 800 meters at 1:55.43.
