UMW Men's Track Places Fifth at Johns Hopkins; Women Take Sixth

The University of Mary Washington track and field teams competed at the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Invitational in Baltimore on Saturday. The men placed fifth overall, while the women placed sixth.

For the women, Sam Montgomery took first and Claire Harrington second in the pole vault at 11 feet .75 inches and 10 feet, 6.25 inches; Sam Park was third in the 3000 steeplechase at 12:15.62; and Brooke Thompson took third in the triple jump at 34 feet, seven inches; Cheyenne Falls finished fourth in the shot put at 36 feet.

The men saw Jeff Branson win the 3000 steeplechase at 9:53.61; the 4x100 relay team of Dalton Echard, Allan Meyer, Mike Atkinson and Matt Bechtel take fourth at 43.62, Atkinson placed second in the 400 meters at 49.38, and the 4x400 meter relay of Atkinson, Tate Houff, Nate Dawes, and Zach Fichter place fourth at 3:30.63. Matt Cronin was third in the hammer throw at 137 feet, nine inches, and Nick Judy was second in the pole vault at 13 feet, 11.25 inches. Nathaniel Saint-Preux took third in the long jump at 21 feet, 8.75 inches.

The teams will return to action next weekend at the Mason Dixon Championships at Gettysburg College.
