UMW Indoor Track and Field Competes at Dickinson Invitational

The University of Mary Washington indoor track and field teams kicked off the 2012-13 season at the Dickinson College Invitational on Saturday, with the both 4x400 relays taking first place.

Members of the winning relay were Emily Derse, Brooke Thompson, Claire Harrington, and Paige Kelly. Other highlights included the 4x200 relay of Derse, Thompson, Michelle Sutherland, and Kelly finishing second at 1:52.92; Sutherland finishing second in the long jump at 16 feet, one inch; Thompson placing fifth in the 55 meter hurdles at 9.07, and Harrington taking fifth in the pole vault at 10 feet.

For the men's team, the 4x400 relay of Dalton Echard, Frank Corona, Allan Meyer, and Mike Atkinson finished first at 3:36. The Eagles finished 1-2 in the triple jump, as David Justis finished first with a time of 43 feet, 10 inches, and Nate Saint-Preux took second at 43-3. Nick Eghtessad was third in the pole vault at 12 feet, six inches, and Atkinson took third in the long jump at 6.38 meters.

Both teams will return to action on January 5 at the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason university.
