UMW Softball Ends Season Vs. No. 1 Salisbury

The Mary Washington softball team (15-23) wrapped up its 2024 season with a 4-2 loss to No. 1 Salisbury on Saturday afternoon in the Coast-to-Coast Softball Championship.

The Eagles scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead when Bridget Laychak singled home Shelby Presgrave with an out in the inning.

UMW led by a run until the bottom of the third when the Sea Gulls tied it, then took a two-run lead in the fourth before scoring another in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles, though, didn't quit in the seventh when Emily Angel led off the inning with a solo home run to cut into the Sea Gulls lead, 4-2.

Caitlyn Burch pitched six innings for the Eagles, striking out three hitters along the way. UMW's ace finishes out the 2024 season with a 2.37 ERA in 118 innings, while accounting for 123 strikeouts.

Head coach Hannah Qualls finished out her first season at the helm of the Eagles and looks to continue to build on her success heading into 2025.
