UMW Softball Falls to No. 1 Salisbury

The Mary Washington softball team fell to No. 1 Salisbury in the Coast-to-Coast Softball Championship first round on Friday afternoon, 11-3.

The Eagles fell behind by eight in the first four innings before scoring three runs in the fifth inning. Caitlyn Burch scored the Eagles first run after Brigid Ward reached on a fielder's choice to third base.

Then Hannah Steele doubled home Ward to cut into the lead, 8-2. And finally, Aminah Shakir singled through the left side to drive home Steele.

Shakir led the Eagles with a pair of hits, while Steele, Emily Angel, Burch and Ward recorded a knock each.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. for a second round win-or-go-home matchup in Newport News, Va.
