UMW Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Catholic

The Mary Washington softball team fell by a run in both games of its doubleheader against Catholic on Wednesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles lose - 6-5

The Eagles fell behind by a run but then tied in the bottom of the first on Bridget Laychak's RBI single. The Eagles then scored four runs in the second innning as Erica Shoop drove in a run with an RBI single. Then, Shelby Presgrave grounded out in to a fielder's choice for an RBI. Next, Aminah Shakir singled home a pair to push the Eagles' lead to four, 5-1.

The Cardinals would turn around and tie it with a four-run third, then they took the lead in the sixth on a wild pitch.

Game 2 - Eagles lose - 2-1

The Eagles would fall behind by two runs in the early innings before scoring once on Bridget Laychak's RBI double in the sixth.

Caitlyn Burch pitched for innings of two-run ball, while Sydney Jester threw three innings of scoreless-ball.

The Eagles are back in action this weekend for Senior Day on Saturday against Christopher Newport at 1:30 p.m.
