UMW Softball Drops Wednesday Doubleheader at Southern Virginia

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Wednesday doubleheader at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Va. The Eagles dropped the opener, 4-2, and game two, 6-1, and move to 18-16 on the season.

In game one, the Eagles scored first with a run in the third inning, as Bridget Laychak singled home Kennedy Darling. The Knights tied the score at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the third, and added three more in the fifth.

UMW added a run in the sixth, as Gracy Drury scored on a Brigid Ward groundout.

Erica Shoop led the Eagles with two hits, while Drury doubled and scored a run. Caitlyn Burch took the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits in six innings, with two walks and five strikeouts.

In game two, UMW fell behind, 5-0, before plating a run in the sixth on a Savannah Jaecks sacrifice fly.

Shelby Presgrave led the offense with two hits, while Shoop doubled. Samantha Stuart took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hitswith seven walks and three strikeouts.

The Eagles will visit Christopher Newport University on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
