UMW Softball Splits With Gettysburg on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with Gettysburg College, winning the opener, 4-0, before falling in the second, 11-0. UMW moves to 11-5 on the season.

In game one, the Eagles scored one in the first on an Emma Schieda RBI double, and added three in the fifth, as Kennedy Darling, Bridget Laychak, and Grace Drury provided RBI singles.

Schieda singled, doubled, and walked, and Nya Lloyd and Darling each had a pair of hits to lead the offense. Junior Caitlyn Burch improved to 7-1 on the season with the complete game three-hit shutout, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

In game two, Gettysburg scored five in the first to pull ahead, and added one in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth. Erica Shoop had a pair of hits to lead the offense, and Samantha Stuart absorbed the loss.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Stevenson University at 2:00 for a doubleheader.
