UMW Softball Defeats N.C. Wesleyan, 9-1, on Friday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington women's softball team beat N.C. Wesleyan, 9-1, in 5 innings of play on Friday afternoon. The Eagles move to 2-0 on the season.

The Battling Bishops would round home once in the top of the first, but the Eagles would start off strong with 3 runs on 2 hits as Bridget Laychak, Erica Shoop, and Grace Dury scored.

UMW would put up another tally in the 2nd inning, with Aminah Shakir reached home after doubling to left field and advancing off of 2 singles. The Eagles would hold the Battling Bishops scoreless the rest of the match and add another 5 runs, with four coming in the 3rd inning and one more in the 5th. Shelby Presgrave would score first, with Hannah Steele, Kennedy Darling, and Rayna Lloyd following close behind to make the score 9-1 to end the game.

Stephanie Folkner earned the win, allowing three hits and one runs in 5 innings, with two walks and one strikeouts. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday when they face Northern Vermont-Lyndon University at 12:00 p.m.
