UMW Softball Tops NC Wesleyan in Rain-Shortened Game; Game 2 PPD

The University of Mary Washington softball team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan College, 5-0, in a rain-shortened game on Thursday in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Eagles improve to 1-2 on the season.

After two scoreless innings, the Eagles jumped ahead with three runs. Nia Lloyd led off with a double and Maggie Mrowka walked, before Aminah Shakir singled home Lloyd for the first run. AFter a single from Kayla Presbitero single, Emma Shieda provided a two-run single.

In the fourth inning, the Eagles added two more runs, as Shakir cconnected for an RBI single, and Morgan Gilbert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another.

Shakir led the Eagles with three hits in three at bats, with one run scored and two RBI. Shieda was 2-3 with two RBI, and Lloyd 2-3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Caitlyn Burch starred in the circle, allowing just one hit in five innings, allowing one walk and striking out five. 

The Eagles will host Messiah University on Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.
