UMW Softball Falls to CNU in Coast 2 Coast Tourney; Finishes Third

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped an 11-1 decision to Christopher Newport University in the consolation final of the Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles finish in third place in the event.

CNU opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning, but UMW would cut the deficit in half with one in the second on a home run by Amina Shakir. The Captains pulled away with four runs in the fourth, and five in the fifth.

In addition to Shakir's home run, Caroline Bird collected a pair of singles. Grace Drury and Morgan Gilbert also gained hits for the Eagles. Caitlyn Burch took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 15 hits in 4.1 innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Eagles close the campaign with a 13-18 overall record, and finished third in the conference tournament.
