UMW Softball Rolls Wentworth, Hilbert in Myrtle Beach on Monday

The University of Mary Washington softball team steamrolled to a pair of victories in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Monday. The Eagles topped Wentworth, 12-1, before topping Hilbert, 17-0 in five innings.

In the opener, freshman Rachel Remer collected four hits and drove in five runs to lead the offense, while Hanna Bruns had a hit and two walks and Danielle Newman had a hit, walk, three runs scored and two RBI. Jamie Purtell gained the victory on the mound, allowing one run on six hits in seven innings, with a walk and one strikeout.

In game two against Hilbert, the Eagles exploded for 17 runs in five innings. Freshman second baseman Maggie Mrowka had four hits ( a single, double, and two triples) with four runs scored and four RBI, while Dayla Sawyer had two doubles and a triple with three runs scored and four RBI, and Rachel Porchie had three hits and three RBI. 

Juliet Truslow gained the win, allowing four hits in five innings, allowing no runs and four walks with two strikeouts.

The Eagles (3-1) will return to action for a pair of games on Tuesday.
