UMW Softball Drops Wednesday Twinbill at #4 Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games at fourth ranked Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday on a rainy day in Ashland, Va. UMW fell, 10-0, in game one, and 4-1 in the nightcap. The Eagles fall to 11-13 on the season. 

The Eagles dropped the opener, 10-0, in five innings. Sophomore Hannah Bruns collected the Eagles' lone hit. Sophomore Jena Calvitti took the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings, with three walks and a strikeout. The Yellow Jackets scored two in the first inning, six in the second, and two in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, Bruns and freshman Rachel Porchie collected hits, but RMC scored two in the third and two more in the fifth for the 4-1 victory. 

Meghan Hibbs started for UMW, and allowed three earned runs in 4.2 innings on eight hits, with no walks and one strikeout, in taking the loss. Kara Deppe allowed two hits in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Salisbury University for a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
