UMW Softball Drops Twinbill to #15 Randolph-Macon on Thursday

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games to the 15th ranked Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets on Thursday at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles fall to 16-12 on the season. Game scores were 7-0 and 4-2.

In the opener, the Yellow Jackets scored a run in the first before scoring four in the third, and two more in the seventh for the only scoring in the game. Erin Stinson took the loss for the Eagles, striking out one and walking one in 7.0 IP.

In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets jumped ahead in the first, but the Eagles answered with a run in the third to tie the game. Danielle Newman tripled to center to start things off. Hannah Hautz drove her in at the next at bat on a single.

The Eagles scored again in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Jessica Huber hit a single and Kaitlin Kean followed with a single to right field. Kean advanced to second and Huber scored after an error by the right fielder.

The Yellow Jackets answered with three in the fifth to go ahead 4-2, which capped the scoring for the game. Kara Deppe took the loss for the Eagles, striking out three and walking four in 7.0 IP.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday as they host Penn State-Harrisburg for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
