UMW Softball Tops Eureka, Anna Maria in Myrtle Beach; Conway Wins 500th Career Softball Game

The University of Mary Washington softball team improved to 11-5 on the season, and finished its spring break trip with a 7-1 record, topping Eureka College, 1-0, and Anna Maria College, 14-3, on Thursday in Myrtle Beach. Eagle head coach Dee Conway won her 500th career contest in the second game.

In the win over Eureka, the Eagles strung together three straight hits to score the game's lone run in the fourth inning. With two outs, Britnee Haynes singled, and moved to second on a single from Courtney Shea. Amy Sykes followed with an RBI single to score the only tally.

The Eagles had eight hits, with Shea and Sykes each providing a pair. Sophomore Kara Deppe improved to 7-1 with a three hit shutout, walking four and striking out seven.

The Eagles then topped Anna Maria, 14-3. Details from that game will be included soon.

Mary Washington will be back in action next Thursday when they host Bridgewater College for a 3 pm doubleheader.
