The University of Mary Washington softball team split its Tuesday doubleheader with Lynchburg College in the regular season finale, falling in the opener, 3-1, before winning the second game, 6-5, in nine innings.

In the opener, Lynchburg plated single runs in the first, second, and fourth inning, and kept the Eagles to one run in a 3-1 victory. The Eagles scored their run in the fifth inning, as Olivia Tatara scored Caroline Callahan on a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles saw six different players pick up a hit, all of which were singles. Erin Stinson took the tough-luck decision, allowing one earned run in seven innings, on six hits with no walks or strikeouts.

In the second game, Lynchburg built a 4-0 lead, scoring two runs in both the first and second innings. The game remained at 4-0 until the fifth inning, when the Eagles erupted for four runs to tie the score.

Junior Zoie Patrick hit a two-run triple, and scored on a Stefannie Asselanis single. Asselanis would come around to score on an Emily Briggs double.

The game remained tied through the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. In the ninth, Lynchburg went ahead with a sacrifice fly, but the Eagles used an Asselanis two-run double to win the game in walkoff fashion.

Asselanis singled and doubled, driving in three, while Patrick singled and tripled with two RBI. Briggs and Hannah Hautz doubled for UMW.

Courtney Merson earned the win in relief for UMW, allowing no earned runs in 7.2 innings of relief on four hits and four strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action on Thursday at 10:00 am when they face York College of Pa in the CAc Tournament first round in Salisbury, Md.
