UMW Softball Drops Twinbill to #8 CNU in Wednesday CAC Action

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games to Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 11-25 overall and 6-6 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The first game saw both teams go scoreless the first two innings before Christopher Newport scored three in the third. The Captains added five more in the fifth to secure the win.

Erin Stinson took the loss for the Eagles, striking out three and giving up no earned runs in five frames.

In the second game, the Captains scored three in the second inning to take an early lead. CNU scored again in the third and fourth to push the lead to 5-0, and then scored two more in the fifth and another in the six to end the game at 8-0.

Kara Deppe took the loss for the Eagles, striking out two and giving up four earned runs in 4.0 innings.

Zoie Patrick led the Eagles at the plate, registering four hits on the day. Lindsey Aylor and Steffanie Asselanis each added two hits in the second game.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm at Salisbury.
