UMW Softball Picks Up Saturday Split at Penn State Harrisburg

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped the opener, 3-2, but came back big in game two for an 8-0 win in five innings to gain a split in Capital Athletic Conference action at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles move to 2-2 in CAC play.

In the opener, the game remained scoreless through three innings, before the Eagles grabbed a run in the fourth. Emily Briggs singled and moved to second on a sacrifice. Emma Rakowski followed with a run-producing double.

The Lions answered with an unearned run in the fourth, and added two runs in the sixth on a walk, single, and double. In the seventh, UMW scored as Zoie Patrick was hit by a pitch and Alexis Hall followed with a double to put runners at second and third.

Stefannie Asselanis followed with an RBI groundout, but the Eagles comeback fell just short.

Rakowski led the Eagles with a single and double. Erin Stinson took the loss for the Eagles, allowing just six hits in 5.2 innings.

In the second game, the Eagles scored in every inning but the first en route to an 8-0 win in five innings. UMW scored twice in the second, as Amy Sykes and Patrick each scored on illegal pitches.

In the third, Malia Rogers singled and Emily Briggs reached on an error. Hannah hautz reached on an error to plate a run. Caroline Callahan followed with an RBI single, and Lindsey Aylor reached on an error to score another.

Hautz and Patrick hit consecutive RBI doubles in the fourth to up the lead to 7-0. In the fifth, Olivia Tatara provided an RBI single to take the lead to 8-0.

Hautz doubled and drove in two runs, while Tatara, Rogers, Patrick and Callahan each had two hits.

Kara Deppe allowed two hits in five innings with four strikeouts in gaining the win.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday when they visit York College of Pa. at noon.
