UMW Softball Drops Pair of 2-1 Decisions at Randolph-Macon on Thursday

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of 2-1 decisions on Thursday at Randolph-Macon College in nonconference action. The Eagles fell in seven innings in the opener, and fell in eight innings in the second game.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets opened with a run in the second inning, before UMW tied the score in the third. Freshman Emma Rakowski reached on an error and was bunted to third with a pair of sacrifices before being driven in on a single from Olivia Tatara.

The Yellow Jackets found the game winning run in the fifth on a single, sacrifice, and sacrifice fly. The Eagles had four hits, with Malia Rogers notching two hits,a nd Emily Briggs and Tatara adding one each.

Freshman Kara Deppe took the tough loss, as she allowed six hits in six innings, with two walks and six strikeouts, and two earned runs.

Game two was a true pitcher's duel, as the game remained scoreless through seven innings. The Eagles scored once in the eighth as Tatara reached on an error to score Amy Sykes. The Yellow Jackets responded with two in the bottom of the inning on three straight singles.

Hannah Hautz had two hits, and Rogers added one for UMW. Erin Stinson took the loss for UMW, allowing eight hits in eight innings, with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Penn State-Harrisburg at 1:00 with a doubleheader in Capital Athletic Conference action.
