The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Randolph-Macon College, 4-3 in eight innings and 3-1, on Tuesday at the Battleground. The first game was historic in that it was the 1,000th game coached by UMW skipper Dee Conway.

In the opener, the game remained scoreless into the fourth. The Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Eagles answered with one. Malia Rogers walked, advanced on a wild pitch, and moved to third on a groundout. She came in to score on an error.

After RMC added a run in the fifth, the Eagles two runs to tie the score. Zoie Patrick singled, and Emma Rakowski reached on a fielder's choice that moved Patrick to second. After a sacrifice, with two out, both runners scored on an error.

The Yellow Jackets plated the eventual winning run on an error. The Eagles were led by Emily Briggs, who had a pair of hits, while Rogers doubled. Erin Stinson took the tough-luck loss, allowing six hits in eight innings, and three runs, all unearned. She walked one and struck out six.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored once in the second and twice in the third to build a 3-0 lead. The Eagles answered with one in the bottom of the third, as Caroline Callahan walked and stole second, and moved to third on an Olivia Tatara single. Callahan would score on a Stefannie Asselanis groundout.

Asselanis led the Eagles with two hits, and Patrick doubled. Freshman Kara Deppe took the loss, allowing seven hits in seven innings on three earned runs, with five walks and five strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they host Eastern Mennonite University for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
