The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped both ends of a doublehader to Division II West Virginia State University on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles dropped the opener, 5-1, before falling in the nightcap, 4-3.
In game one, the Eagles were limited to four hits. First baseman Hannah Hautz led the way offensively with a single and solo home run.
In the nightcap, Hautz opened the scoring in the top of the first, plating Emily Briggs, who had walked. Trailing 4-1 entering the seventh, UMW scored twice. Emily Rakowski and Malia Rogers led off with back to back singles, before Kaitlyn Kean provided an RBI single, and Briggs followed by plating a run on an error.
The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they face Eastern University at 9:30 a.m.
