Otterman Named CAC Pitcher of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury junior Paige Knussman and Mary Washington senior Hannah Otterman were named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 13, 2015.

Salisbury junior Paige Knussman was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .700 (7-for-10) with four RBIs and four runs scored in a 3-1 week for the Sea Gulls. Knussman registered a pair of doubles and a home run on the week, slugging 1.200 with an on-base percentage of .714. Knussman and the Sea Gulls clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament.

Mary Washington senior Hannah Otterman was named the CAC Pitcher of the Week after winning both of her starts over the weekend, allowing no runs and just five hits in 13 innings of work. Otterman struck out 12 batters in victories over Penn State Harrisburg and York, helping UMW move into a third-place tie in the CAC standings.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury is ranked No. 6 and Christopher Newport No. 15 in the April 8 NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll ... Christopher Newport locked up the top seed in the CAC Tournament for the second straight year ... Salisbury will be the No. 2 seed in the CAC postseason, while Frostburg State, Mary Washington and York round out the playoff field ... Seeds 3-5 will be determined based on the results of Monday's doubleheader between UMW and Frostburg State ... CNU's Scoop Simon knocked in 10 runs in six games and scored seven times in leading the Captains to a 5-1 week. Hanah Marshall was 3-0 last week to finish the regular season with a 13-2 mark ... In addition to winning Pitcher of the Week, Mary Washington's Hannah Otterman was also a force at the plate for the Eagles, going 7-for-9 (.778) with two walks and a double. For the week, she contributed more hits than she allowed while pitching (7-5) ... Salisbury senior Rachel Johnson put together two CAC complete-game shutouts including her seventh career perfect game, in a victory against Southern Virginia, and a five-hit effort against Frostburg State, striking out 22 in 15 1/3 innings ... Wesley broke the school record for wins (21) with a sweep of Southern Virginia this past weekend. Lindsay Siok posted a no-hitter against Southern Virginia, while Nina Marcano went a perfect 7-for-7 against SVU with seven runs and three stolen bases ... York's Courtney Martin earned a win in relief as the Spartans handed CNU its first conferenence loss of the year. For the week, Martin tossed 27 innings, allowing eight runs, six earned, while she struck out eight and walked four as she had a 1.56 ERA in her five games. Carleigh Ruleman hit .438 with seven RBI, and four runs scored, including the game-winning home run in a 3-1 non-conference win over Messiah and two homers in the twinbill split with CNU. For the year, Ruleman is hitting .337 with 15 runs scored, 19 RBI, seven doubles, a triple, and a team-leading eight home runs for the Spartans.
