UMW's Scites, Otterman, and Tatara Named to All-CAC Softball Team

The University of Mary Washington softball team, fresh off a 21-win season, saw three players named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference Team, including seniors Brittany Scites and Hannah Otterman, and sophomore Olivia Tatara.

Scites was the only player in the conference not from Salisbury or Christopher Newport to be named to the first team. She batted .317 with a team-high 22 runs scored, with three doubles, one triple, and tied for the team lead with three home runs. She was an all-conference selection last year as well.

Otterman was named to the all-conference team for the fourth straight year, posting a 10-4 record with a 2.51 earned run average. She stuck out 67 batters in 95 innings, and also batted .344 with four doubles and 11 RBI.

Tatara was named to the second team at catcher. She led the team with a .403 average, and tied for the team lead with 21 RBI. She added five doubles, a triple, and a home run while scoring 15 runs.

YORK, Pa. - For the second-straight year, Christopher Newport and Salisbury, a pair of national powerhouses, battled for the CAC softball title. CNU captured the trophy for the second-straight year, but both teams were rewarded for success by the conference coaches as the Captains claimed nine All-CAC nods, as well as the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards, while Salisbury picked up eight all-star awards.

Senior first baseman Sabrina Hill, a two-time All-American, picked up her second-straight first-team CAC all-star award and added the 2015 Player of the Year award to her resume. The first CNU player to win the CAC Player of the Year award, Hill is one of seven 2015 first-team All-CAC honorees.

Junior pitchers Krista Lewis and Hanah Marshall, junior outfielders Meagan Jones and Scoop Simon, sophomore second baseman Tori Clarke and freshman DP Brittney Walters all joined Hill on the All-CAC first team. Jones was a repeat selection on the first team with Hill while Lewis, the 2014 CAC Co-Rookie of the Year, and Clarke were second-team All-CAC players in 2014.

Junior catcher Hannah Cook and sophomore outfielder Rachael Shiflett were second-team all-stars for the Captains. Shiflett was the fifth CNU player to make the All-CAC team for the second-straight season.

The architect of the success for the regular-season champion and 13th-ranked Captains is 12-year veteran coach Keith Parr, who was selected by his peers as the 2015 CAC Coach of the Year. It is Parr's fifth career conference Coach of the Year award.

Conference softball rival Salisbury, ranked 9th in NCAA Division III, was equally represented on the All-CAC first team as CNU, led by senior pitcher Rachel Johnson, who finished her career with four All-CAC awards, including three first-team nods, and Player of the Year trophies in 2013 and 2014.

Senior batterymate Rebecca Hoey, along with junior infielders Paige Knussman, Kim Dorsey and Katie Sebbane, junior utility player Annah Brittingham and freshman outfielder LeAnne Collins, all joined Johnson as 2015 first-team CAC all-stars. Knussman and Sebane are both three-time CAC all-stars while Hoey and Dorsey were repeat selections on the All-CAC first team.

Junior second baseman Molly Simpson, a first-team all-star in 2014, completed Salisbury's sweep of infield positions as a member the 2015 second-team all-star squad.

Mary Washington, which finished fourth in the regular season, was one of three teams to collect three awards on the 2015 All-CAC squad, including the only player not from CNU and Salisbury on the first team. UMW senior third baseman Brittany Scites was honored by the conference coaches for the second-straight season.

Leading the second-team all-star squad was UMW senior pitcher Hannah Otterman, who joined Johnson as four-time All-CAC hurlers. Sophomore catcher Olivia Tatara also represented the Eagles on the post-season team for the first time in her career.

Frostburg State, York and Wesley combined for the final seven positions on the All-CAC second team.

FSU's sophomore utility standout Hannah Tavik gained her second-straight all-conference recognition while freshman outfielder Sam Gratton was a first-time second-team all-star and freshman pitcher Allison Short was picked by the CAC coaches as the 2015 Rookie of the Year. Short is the third softball Rookie of the Year from Frostburg State in its five years of CAC membership, joining 2011 co-winner Caitlin Lovend and 2013 honoree Mary Ann Moore.

Three second-team all-star awards were presented to York sophomore shortstop Katie Maloney, who was the 2014 co-Rookie of the Year with Lewis, as well as freshmen pitcher Courtney Martin and outfielder Jayci Cristaudo.

Wesley's two second-team all-star honorees were junior DP Kayla Fromal and sophomore pitcher Lindsay Siok. Both Fromal and Siok are first-time CAC post-season award winners.
