UMW Softball Falls to Salisbury, 6-2, in CAC Tournament Third Round

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a 6-2 decision to seventh-ranked Salisbury University on Friday afternoon in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament, ending the campaign with a 21-14 record.

The Sea Gulls forged ahead with one run in the first, and five in a key third inning. The Eagles battled back with a run in the fourth, as freshman Hannah Hautz hit a solo home run to center field. The Eagles cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth, as Brittany Scites doubled and scored on an Alex Tenney single, but would draw no closer, as both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Sophomore catcher Olivia Tatara led the Eagles with three hits on the day, while Tenney added two with an RBI. Hautz's homer and Scites' double accounted for UMW's other two base hits.

Senior Hannah Otterman took the loss for the Eagles, allowing two earned runs in 2.2 innings on six hits, with a walk and two strikeouts. Salisbury's Rachel Johnson recorded 15 strikeouts in two stints on the rubber for the Sea Gulls.

Mary Washington closes the season with a 21-14 overall record, their most wins in three seasons.
