UMW Softball Drops Wednesday Twinbill at CNU

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conerence games to Christopher Newport University on Wednesday. The Eagles fall to 12-10 on the season.

The Eagles fell in the opener, 10-2. After the Captains scored three in the first, UMW answered with two in the third. After a Brittany Scites triple, Emily Briggs singled to score one run, and Briggs scored on an RBI single from Hannah Otterman.

The Captains scored once in the third, five times in the fourth, and once in the fifth. Briggs and Hannah Hautz each had two hits for the Eagles.

Otterman took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 3.2 innings, with three walks and six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Eagles scored in the first, as Scites and Briggs each singled, and Scites would score on a sacrifice fly from Olivia Tatara. The Captains scored four in the first, two in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth.

Scites and Hautz each had two hits to lead the Eagles. Rachel Watts took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they visit Southern Virginia University at 5:00 p.m.
